Books on tap.

Looking for something decent to read is an ongoing challenge.  Finding the motivation to delve into a new book...or finish off that book on your bedside table [which has been there for months...]...is an added challenge.

Thinking that you'll finish that bedside-table-book before you pick up a new book means the activation energy to do some leisure reading can be immense.

Hopefully this will ease the pain [for a very select few] of finding an interesting book.  Eventually it could grow into a resource for friends, colleagues, students, and anyone who stumbles upon it - to face the above challenges (but I won't hold my breath, it's just another blog in the blogosphere...).  At the outset, it's a place for me to exercise my motivation to pick up a new book - and stick with it to the epilogue.

Regardless - we're all on the lookout for a book that draws you back for an additional chapter...or keeps you awake an extra 30 minutes before bed [vs. puts you to sleep after reading the same page 5 times...].  Both types of books serve a purpose.

The blog title:  "mental chemiatria" is pseudo-allusion to the first book review The Secrets of Alchemy by Lawrence M. Principe.  Principe defines chemiatria as medical alchemy.  If you dive into The Secrets of Alchemy you'll find the definition of the term "alchemy" is fluid over time.  It receives influence from famous names like Aristotle, Paracelsus, Newton, and Kepler.  More importantly, it's a term that embodies science and philosophy and it included methods of observation and manipulations of natural materials.  Loosely defined, "mental chemiatria" is something to think about.  Something to evolve, stimulate, and maintain intellectual hunger and well-being.

Good luck discovering the next item on your reading list!
